The Skills to Have Difficult Conversations

This clip, taken from Esther Perel’s Youtube channel is one of those videos you would want to watch a couple times over and share with the people you are having difficulty talking to.

I thought I’ll share this because relational intelligence, the ability to have difficult conversations instead of debates (and needing to winning) and really understanding yourself/others is probably something we’re all dealing with, or have dealt with. From macro levels of politics and economics all the way down to the relationships we hold dearest.

These skills are incredibly useful when we’re engaged in a challenging discussion over something that is important to us. It helps us to lower the defenses and reach out with curiosity. When paired with mindfulness- sitting in the moment, rather than engaging in our heads about future points we’d like to make, it could really set us up for something magical and transformative.

Enjoy!
